How To Pick A Lock With A Paperclip – Padlock
So you want to pick a lock using only a paperclip? Well, today I’m going to tell you exactly how to pick a master lock or padlock type of lock using only a paperclip and your god given senses. First of all, you will need to find a big paperclip as a small one simply will not do for picking a padlock. Plus, you’re going to need something to hold onto while you are attempting to pick the lock with the paperclip.
Picking A Lock Using A Paperclip
Once you have found a large paperclip you will need to shape it into a “S” form. You want your paperclip to resemble the letter “S” after you have bent it into shape. Next, you will want to take the smallest end of the paperclip and straighten it out so that you may use this end to stick it directly into the padlock itself.
Take the bigger end of the paperclip and kind of mold it into a grip for your hand which is comfortable to you. The next step in picking the padlock with a paperclip is to bend the straightened smaller end of the paperclip at about a 45 degree angle. After you have bent the straight end of the paperclip to 45 degrees or so you will want to insert that end into the padlock itself.
Finally, gently stroke the top using the paperclip and it may keep some of the pins in the right spot. When you feel that it cannot go back any further then begin to slowly turn it. The lock should then start to unlock for you and you will have accomplished unlocking the padlock using a paperclip.
How To Pick A Lock With A Paperclip – Master Lock
It is imperative that you are either picking your own master lock or that you have permission to pick a the lock, since breaking into property that is not yours is punishable by law. It would be best, if the lock is not yours, to have the owner of the property present.
Once you have settled your authority to pick the lock, you can follow the steps below to help you pick a master lock.
Make sure you have exhausted all efforts to open the lock. The only time that you might consider picking a master lock is if the situation cannot be helped by a professional locksmith or if you are sure you have lost your key. You might also want to know how to pick a master lock because the situation that calls for it is an emergency, and you have no time for dealing with locksmiths or looking for proper means of opening the lock, save for cutting it with a deadbolt.
What’s important to know before you pick a master lock is that without practice that professional locksmiths have, you might potentially hurt yourself or render the lock unusable. Make absolutely sure there is no other way, and again, secure the proper consent before you pick a master lock.

This video is meant to help you find the combination of an old lock you have lying around. If you are a petty thief, this is not the video for you. There are obviously many other methods to break a lock. No other method will get you the combination however. So enjoy, and good luck!
Acquire your tools. To pick a master lock, you will need a bent paper clip or something similar in build and a tension wrench. Straighten out a paper clip and bend the tip to 45 degrees. This will be used to move the pins back from locked position while the tension wrench is used to keep the lock at a state where it will turn once all the pins are pushed.
Position your tension wrench. Picking a door knob is not very different from how to pick a master lock. Push the tension wrench into the bottom part of the keyhole, right where the flat part of the key would normally be. The tension wrench will ensure that you can twist the lock when you push all the pins inside, which is discussed in the next step.
Push the pins back. In a locked position, the pins are sticking out to accommodate a key when it needs to unlock. Make sure your makeshift pick which is the paper clip is long enough to reach the backmost part of the keyhole. Feel around the keyhole and push the pins back while holding your tension wrench in place, which will make sure that the pins do not go back to its locked position. Work your way back out of the keyhole pushing pins until the lock is undone.
For first timers on how to pick a master lock, this may take time to do and a little patience to figure the lock out. Feel around the lock and always remember that the trick is to start at the end of the keyhole as opposed to its opening, and keep the tension wrench in place to make sure that the pins do not go back to its original locked positions before the lock is open.
How to Pick A Lock With A Paperclip
Anyone can unlock a door lock with a paper clip.Apply very light torque to the tension wrench (you can use a pen clip as a tension wrench}, and then scrub back and forth over the pins, slightly push the pins upwards or downwards while scrubbing. If the pins do not set after several strokes, release the tension wrench and do it again. In fact, it s quite difficult to employ “single-pin picking” with a paper clip, so raking is easier.
