CIA Lock Picking: Field Operative Training Manual
Did you ever lose your keys? Lock picking is the skill of unlocking a lock by analyzing and manipulating the components of the lock device, without the original key. Although lock picking can be associated with criminal intent, it is an essential skill for a locksmith. Lock picking is the ideal way of opening a lock without the correct key, while not damaging the lock, allowing it to be rekeyed for later use, which is especially important with antique locks that would be impossible to replace if destructive entry methods were used.

In your opinion is lock picking a worthwhile hobby/skill to learn?- lock picking
Question by : In your opinion is lock picking a worthwhile hobby/skill to learn?
I’ve been thinking about buying a cheap (or not so cheap) set of lock picks to practice picking locks, not for criminal purposes, but as a hobby and to help those who are locked out of their rooms. Seeing as lock pick sets aren’t all that useful outside of picking locks and are quite expensive (a crappy set goes for $ 6, while better brands go for at least $ 20), should I buy a set and try it?

Think of doing a locksmith’s course actually. You can charge someone a fortune if they lock themselves out of anywhere or break a key in a lock.

Absolutely. That’s a skill I’d be proud to be say I had.
Not only that, you wouldn’t need keys anymore.
